Under rainy grey skies and a muddy Big A oval, Matthew Schera's Snow Fighter came away with a hard-fought win in Friday's opener. Breaking well, and placed in the 2-path by jockey Manny Franco, Snow Fighter sat close to the the pack of three others mutually occupying the lead, with a 1/2 mile complete, Snow Fighter moved into 3rd place, a neck off two other challengers and revved up. Into the stretch, the 4. yr. old gelding by Candy Ride was given a nudge by Jockey Franco and Snow Fighter obliged.
Snow Fighter assumed the lead and would hold it till the wire, holding off a determined Fielding Gold under Mike Luzzi. Congratulations again to Carlos, Client and friend Matthew Schera, Jockey Manny Franco, Snow Fighter's groom - Julio Herrera and the entire team at Carlos Martin Racing.
