Glorious Empire lived up to his name as Matthew Schera's 6 yr. old Gaelic Gelding marched his way to the lead right from the break and conquered the competition with an overwhelming show of force, which was in a word - "GLORIOUS".
Under the consummate professional, Julien Laparoux, Glorious broke sharply and was quickly gathered up by his talented rider. From there on in, Glorious was simply on cruise control as he coasted on an uncontested lead throughout.
As rider and horse swung for home, it appeared for a split second, that the field was moving to Glorious' heels and were about to swallow him up. It was not to be as Julien shifted the well-built son of Holy Roman Emperor into another gear and he quickly accelerated away from the chasing pack. At the wire, the margin of victory was an impressive 7 & 1/2 lengths and only 2/5th off the track record of 1:39 and 1/5 for the mile and a sixteenth on Saratoga's inner turf course.
